Last weekend, I wanted to make my workout interesting,
so I took it outside – Old School Style. All I can say is
that it was definitely a serious workout.

Let me tell you a quick story….

Right after college, I didn’t have any money for a gym
membership or fitness equipment. So I had to be
creative with training. I trained in the local park for the
entire summer (while it was still nice out). With very limited
equipment, I managed to get stronger.

My lesson in this story…

I know that some people can’t afford a gym membership
or buy fitness equipment. However, with some creativity,
you can still have a kick-ass workout.

If you want me to make more old school training videos, please
leave a comment here in my beyond six pack abs blog.

I can make videos from how to make your own equipment to
how to train “old school style.” Again, make sure to leave a
comment. Let’s get ready for the summer!

    More old school training! ;)

  2. MH Says:

Wow, that looks intense but you can’t say no tires were harmed in the filming. I started feeling bad for that poor tire. Lets see more.

  3. Peter Says:

    more,more,more!!(;
But please more exercises without equipment. I like to see a workout in the forrest, where you can use other things.
Another nice vid would be a workout at the beach.

  4. David Says:

    Any old-school sand bag workouts?

I’ve heard one can make a gravel-filled stability ball. Won’t the ball bust?

  5. Ben Says:

This reminds me of heating the house with wood as a kid. Cut down a big tree, roll the large pieces to a trailer, and lift them inside, bring them home, unload them, the split the pieces, and stack them all up. If I wasn’t feeling motivated, Dad made and excellent trainer! LOL!!

Modern ways have contributed to my softness.

  6. shane Says:

i would love to see more, specifically ones that dont require much equipment. im more of an outdoors person, and outdoors training fits into my lifestyle more.

  7. Sven Says:

Please go on with this old school videos. I cant afford to go to a gym so this is good for me.. THANK YOU!!!

  8. Corey O Says:

    Hey Arnel,
I was just wondering what you would recommend for someone who is somewhat experienced (I used to do push ups and sit ups) and now i have a cheap bench press(very flimsy and only goes to about 105 lbs haha), a 25 lb dumbbell(can only do about 10 curls), and thats pretty much it-well my question is what do you suggest i do so that i can get bigger-im pretty slim-about 6 ft-160 lbs. so you can imagine. id greatly appreciate anything

  9. Sean Says:

Hey man these vids are exactly what i’m looking for because I don’t have the time of money to go to a gym. Also I have alot of cinder blocks in my backyard anything I could do with those?¿

  10. Eric Says:

    Cool video!

Please add more. Thise are interesting, might give some of those a try. Thanks!

  11. Blake Says:

    hey arnel

its hard for me to start with a regular workout routine

what would you suggest for me?

i am currently 5′ 10″, 210 lbs (not much muscle)

i have access to a basic bench which is a bit uncomfortable, limited free weights, a small workout space in the basement, focus mitts and a punching bag

  12. Christian Says:

I like the idea, but yea I want some more ideas on how to make your own stuff for the old school workout!!!!! Because I have know equipment at all, but I am trying to follow your videos as much as possible. Maybe you could make some videos about using stuff around the house to work out with because like I said I dont have that much equipment at all!!!!!!!

    Thanks

  13. Dan Says:

Do it man, Just do it! Old School is the best no gimmicks, no frills just you and the muscle dude.

  14. Mike Says:

    Hey Arnel,

Nice video man!! It would be great if you made more!! Anyway, I know this may be a little off the topic of the video but I was looking for some advice. OK, so by summer I was hoping to achieve a ripped six pack and get into shape! I have been following some of your workout routines and I must say I found them pretty effective. But is it completely possible to get ripped abs in 3 months? I recently bought some ‘Whey powder’ which gives me 24 grams of protein so will that help me to burn fat and get fit? It also includes a bunch of vitamins. What can I be doing on a daily basis to try and burn as much fat as I can and get my abs showing? I had asked my self this question, ” Why do I want to work out? and why do I want to be fit? well it’s really quite simple. I want to do this because I want more confidence in myself and I want to be able to take my shirt off without being self consious. (and I want to attract the girls too if ya know what I mean!!) Im not overwheight to begin with so I already have the upper hand of it. Any tips or tricks you can tell me would be great!!
    Thanks for your time!!
    Mike.

  15. Marian Says:

    Hi Arnel!
I dont know if you can read this message to time!!!…but i want to say something for you!!!
I am from Romania and i dont know verry well english…..but i try to write you!
i got 37 years old…i like to smoke and i like too make sport…..so that i have a problem! i cant go farway with this sport…just i am so tired now…but still i want make sport in everydays.
Please tel me…. its good to take some steroids for my body? or not? my body dont want to work fery fast! what can i do?

  16. john Says:

Very good, this is what I’m looking for. New exercise methods and with little or no professional equipment. New ways that I could still workout if I can’t afford the gym.

  17. Jeremy Says:

I would really like to see more of these videos, i think its a great idea (especially for people like me) for people who cant afford any equipment at all. I already do the pullups on anything that i can find that wont break on my head, and i spend alot of time trying to improvise ways to make an alternative solution to some of the workouts.

  18. Jason Says:

good starter, but definitely post more. i love the tire sledging. i’m a big fan of the functional training style. I noticed alot of your workouts are done with resistance bands “tubes”, but have you tried the flexbands?!? The resistance is totally different! Maybe add in some stuff with towing, a sled, sandbags, or even a homemade TRX (which is pretty easy to make actually). Great stuff man, I love what you are doing. Keep it up!

  19. Gavin Says:

I find “old school training” far more effective and fun. I get a group of guys round my house and between the front and side drive we create training regimes out of nothing using materials that are available to us. It is more flexible and you are also inhaling fresh oxygen which might not sound like much but makes a huge difference. Definately more “old school training”, It’s the way forward. Give us some ideas using trees if possible.

  20. Lee Says:

Great video. It’s nice to have something different. Could you show us how to make some of our own equipment at some point? That would be great. Thanks for all you tips Arnel !!

  21. Hawaiian Dave Says:

Hey, DejaVu…this is Rocky before he got all “uptown” and fancy. I like it! Simple, basic, real, work out for the common man. Whether one can’t afford the membership to a gym, doesn’t want to hang with the Gym Rats or is to freakn’ fat and self conscious to wanna go to a gym but has the desire and determination, this is the way to do it…the home based “old school” as you call it workout. Heck I use a bench at the kitchen table with a nylon strap around it to hold my feet in place to do sit up/crunches at 3:00am. I also save time not going to a gym. Also, people are giving weights and exercise equipment away all the time on freecycle.
    Power to the common man!

  22. laur romania Says:

hey arnel you’ll have to escuse my english , its a little pore…but i can still say more old school trainig…i mean my membership card is out of date…and i dont realy whant to pay another month…plus outside its starting to look realy great…and i whant to ask you if you could make some videos…like this one you just sended me…but without any tipe of equipment at all…thanks…keep up the good work…youre my idol….

  23. sakmat Says:

Hello Arnel. I really appreciate your old school training video. The problem is not the money for gym but the time. I am going to school and i have not enought time to do exercise. Also i am 17 years old and someone had told me that if i do difficult exercises i will stop to grow taller. I think that i have already stopped growwing taller. So that i am exercising on horizontal bar and some abs only.

  24. Angela Yoshiko Says:

Keep on doing what your doing great. If you have a strong fan base, forget what folks like MilesFromNowhere says. It seems like you’ve found something you really enjoy and you’re adding a lot of positive experiences to the blogging world. Keep up the hard work, and I look forward to your next video!

  25. Andreas N Says:

    “MORE” just wouldnt b enough!

Love it! Its a Awesome Idea!
    Old School for the WIN!

  27. Colby Greuel Says:

I love it man! But my personal request would be that we get more terrain. I would love to see stuff you can do like in a park, or runnning around town or something that you can go outside and do without equipment. I have the equipment and have been doing ALOT of your excersises, but I love being outside. LOVING IT!!! Thanks Man!!!

  28. Joel Says:

Hey plz send me more how workouts.. plus i need to strength tranning and power.. plus some outdoor workout like DIPS PULLUPS PUSH UPS AND ABS

  29. michael Says:

good video. what about park excercise equipment though. like jungle gyms and stuff. could you make a video about using those?

  30. Bilgehan Says:

Hi mate :) can you give some examples on how to make your own equipment because I don’t really have money to buy them right now

  31. Radoslav Says:

Man that was a nice workout. Even if i can afford a gym it still is nice cause i have a friend who cant and he tries to work out at home whit out equipment can you make a nice video about those kinds of workouts in the future. It would be really nice, he has real problems working on the lower stomach muscles so even if you cant do a whole body workout video an exercise about them would be enough.

  32. Neil Says:

Hey! Great video and definitely keep em coming!

  33. Pablo Says:

Thats pretty intense. Your neighbors must think your insane with the StrongMan style Tire Flipping workout and the Rope Waving. It looks like your whipping imaginary horses. Great video make more.

  34. Mckenna Wilson Says:

Good ideas… I love that we have the opportunity to workout outside if we want! It must be better for the body too to be able to breathe fresh air!

  35. Dinesh Says:

  37. Susan Says:

Hey please post more how – to workouts.. plus i need to strength tranning and power.. outdoor workouts lincluding DIPS PULLUPS PUSH UPS etc. Anything that can help with building up Female Abs

  38. Andy Says:

This type of training I love. It serves all aspects of obtaining tight abs. It will get you winded serving as your cardio. It is full body including your core which will stimulate hormones to produce lean muscle growth. This will get you to drop weight quickly and develop an extremely strong core.

One thing that I would recommend is adding weighted isolation exercises. I usually preaching the other way because I hate programs that focus on crunches. But this video is so far i the opposite directions I think that it is actually needed.

As I said before that you will burn fat quickly and you will build an extremely strong functional core. Why not have the bulging six pack with it. Add weighted crunches on the stability ball and hanging leg raises with ankle weight and those abs will be bursting through our stomach.

Great video, enjoyed it a lot
